Blur
Blur, one of the truly iconic British bands of the modern age, headlined BT London Live as part of the celebrations to mark the end of the London 2012 Games. Having marked their celebrated 2009 reunion with a sell-out show in Hyde Park, the four-piece return for another sold out extravaganza of a show to coincide with the Closing Ceremony taking place across town at the Olympic Park.
Blur formed in 1988, when childhood friends Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon met Alex James at art school. Alongside drummer Dave Rowntree, the group went on to shape the UK’s music scene producing some of the biggest selling records of the 1990s, and are often cited as inspiration among current and emerging musicians.
With countless hits such as There’s No Other Way, Girls & Boys, Parklife, Song 2 and Beetlebum – and aided by highly publicised rivalries and numerous side projects – Blur are largely credited with popularising Britpop in the UK mainstream charts, as well as breaking the US market and expanding their influences throughout their career to provide a hugely rich and broad recorded canon.
Seven studio albums later and an array of industry awards behind them, including this year’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ Brit Award, Blur continue to deliver outstanding value through their music and live performances. London 2012 is sure to go out with a bang, a massive singalong, and an unforgettable party.
