The Greatest Team of All

My first painting has been inspired by my visit to Olympic Park last month and how I saw the whole park developing. The London 2012 Olympic Games could not be held without a fantastic team behind them which includes the builders building the venues, the athletes village, the roads and so much more, the buses and the airlines bringing the spectators in from all over the world, our Athletes joining together as one team, Team GB. Also the Teams from all the other countries. It is impossible to show in one single painting the amount of Teamwork that is involved and I had to leave many aspects out but I have tried to show some of my ideas in this painting.

The footballers are having a tug of war pulling the Olympic Rings. The high jumper is jumping over the fence to help them. The photographer is taking photos whilst the swimmers are also trying to get there quickly so they can help to pull the Rings. World Airlines is dropping in more Athletes to help and the builders are doing their bit, so that the spectators can go ‘This way or That Way’. Whilst the cyclists are on top of the Athletes apartments and hotels all involved in trying to make this the best ever Olympic Games.

“The Judo Team” and was inspired by my visit to the Pre Olympic Training venue at the Dojo in Kendal. Teamwork features quite strongly amongst Judo players with each player in the team supporting the other players. Players from different teams often fight each on many occasions and yet strong bonds are made between players both on and off the mat. Win or lose this bond lasts between these players who fight each other regularly and all are desperate to win.

“C’mon Lads, we’ll get them there in time”. This was inspired by the thoughts of how much Teamwork goes into any of the Olympic Games and I wanted to convey a simple image of the strength of this teamwork within the London 2012 Olympic and paralympics games. I chose football players after watching my football mad Grandson, Cameron playing with his Team. This young team have already learned the skills of working together and are enjoying much success, all due to Teamwork.
